The team here at the MIT Mobile Experience Lab has been doing some mind bending as we try to design a concept for the data visualization to be showcased at the Airport Council International in September (hosted by Boston’s own Logan airport: http://www.aciboston2008.com/ )
Given that the Logan airport has forwarded initiatives that the United States Green Building Council has recognized them for ( with a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification ), our installation will be constrained in terms of energy usage, use of materials, and perhaps several other limiting factors. Yet in spite of constraints, our purpose is still to engage the context within which this installation will reside. The dates during which the installation will be showcased are also part of the constraints. Yet, for all our hard work, we have kept in mind that our work can be appropriated within different contexts.
Such works might have a generative connection to a particular spot, but they can mutate and adapt over time and in new places.–Stephanie Smith in Beyond Green Catalogue
Playing on the theme of sustainability and appropriating the practice of recycling to our own work, we hope to delight and amaze with an installation that will be mobile yet engaging in whichever context it is presented.
a book by Frank Popper
Over three decades ago, when most of the art history establishment was clueless about technology-inspired art, Frank Popper was there recognizing its importance, organizing shows, and trying to help readers understand its implications.–Stephen Wilson
In my constant struggle to prevent technology from taking over my life, I have recently attempted to find good historical references relating to the rise of computing and the arts. Computing, as the vehicle that has of accelerated the pace of technological advances, should be considered within the context of other technologies and their relation to art. More importantly, the role of art should be seen within pressing issues of our time, in politics, the community, the environment and all else within our relations with each other and with our earth. I have yet to read this book, but at least I know now of an author/historian worth looking up. Now, I just have to find it, read it, discern it. Has anyone else picked this book up?
Craigslist has got me. As a newcomer to Boston/Cambridge I started searching the forums for interested dance partners. Today I posted my first request.
Helloooo. I am hoping to connect with a dance partner for the summer in the Cambridge/Boston area.I would love to explore the Boston dance scene on a regular basis with a new fun and joyful companion. Ideally you are as excited as I am to shine on the dance floor, but if you feel like you dont have the skills you’ll quickly realize that salsa is a lot about soul and desire. I have been told that I am a great lead, but I am no expert. We can continue learning and enjoying the music together.I would be glad to dance with a beginner, adv beginner, intermediate, whoever is out there and willing to hit the Cambridge/Boston area clubsfor fun and joyful nights of dance.Hope to hear from you. Respond when you have time, the sooner the better theres soo much salsa in Boston.-adg

you can now drag and drop a file to the editor window to add it to the sketch. if you drag and drop a sketch file (a .pde file whose parent folder is named the same thing), that sketch will be opened.
I’ve been using Processing for a little over a year now and have just now figured this out. You learn something new everyday.
