Boston’s Institute of Contemporary Art is free every Thursday from 5-9PM, courtesy of Target. Today is a very special Thursday because, apart from free admission to the museum, there is also a free concert by the Berklee Latin Jazz All-Stars as part of the summer concert series Harborwalk Sounds. I can’t wait to get out of the office and enjoy some joyful polyrythym by the harbor !

The Berklee Latin Jazz All-Stars, six top scholarship students at the college, came to Berklee from Puerto Rico, Israel, and the U.S., and coalesced around their love for the polyrhythm and joyful precision of the Latin jazz form. The group was named this year’s Best College Jazz Band in Down Beat, under the name La Timbistica, and recently performed as part of the Monterey Jazz Festival’s Next Generation Festival in Monterey, CA. The All-Stars are led by conguero Paulo Stagnaro and include trumpeter Niv Toar, flutist Enrique Trinidad, pianist Abraham Olivo, bassist Juan Maldonado, and timbalero Marcos Lopez. They will headline the Tito Puente Latin Music Series in Boston this summer, and also perform at the Duke Ellington Jazz Festival in Washington, D.C. Admission is free. Space is limited. via icaboston.org
The team here at the MIT Mobile Experience Lab has been doing some mind bending as we try to design a concept for the data visualization to be showcased at the Airport Council International in September (hosted by Boston’s own Logan airport: http://www.aciboston2008.com/ )
Given that the Logan airport has forwarded initiatives that the United States Green Building Council has recognized them for ( with a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification ), our installation will be constrained in terms of energy usage, use of materials, and perhaps several other limiting factors. Yet in spite of constraints, our purpose is still to engage the context within which this installation will reside. The dates during which the installation will be showcased are also part of the constraints. Yet, for all our hard work, we have kept in mind that our work can be appropriated within different contexts.
Such works might have a generative connection to a particular spot, but they can mutate and adapt over time and in new places.–Stephanie Smith in Beyond Green Catalogue
Playing on the theme of sustainability and appropriating the practice of recycling to our own work, we hope to delight and amaze with an installation that will be mobile yet engaging in whichever context it is presented.
Craigslist has got me. As a newcomer to Boston/Cambridge I started searching the forums for interested dance partners. Today I posted my first request.
Helloooo. I am hoping to connect with a dance partner for the summer in the Cambridge/Boston area.I would love to explore the Boston dance scene on a regular basis with a new fun and joyful companion. Ideally you are as excited as I am to shine on the dance floor, but if you feel like you dont have the skills you’ll quickly realize that salsa is a lot about soul and desire. I have been told that I am a great lead, but I am no expert. We can continue learning and enjoying the music together.I would be glad to dance with a beginner, adv beginner, intermediate, whoever is out there and willing to hit the Cambridge/Boston area clubsfor fun and joyful nights of dance.Hope to hear from you. Respond when you have time, the sooner the better theres soo much salsa in Boston.-adg
